The popular band-and-strings program in the Vancouver School District has been saved from the chopping block while budgets still have to be finessed to support the program. There are hopes for an emergency meeting with the Education Minister before the budget is finalized in June.
Here’s a quote from our board member and President of the BC Coalition for Music Education:
"The news from Vancouver is very encouraging; the school board is to be congratulated on their decision to preserve music programs in the city’s schools.
It is to be hoped that other school districts in BC that are wrestling with difficult budget decisions will take the wishes of parents into account and find ways to offer music as part of a well-rounded education for our children."
